Derecho Disaster & Emergency Relief Assistance

 In Success Stories, Tax Tips

The Internal Revenue Service is now extending the October 15th tax filing deadline, along with other upcoming deadlines to December 15th for victims of the Iowa derecho.

Currently, the IRS is offering the relief to any area designated by FEMA to qualify for individual assistance. At this point, Linn County in Iowa is included, but counties that will be added later to the disaster area will automatically be extended as well.

This extension only applies to individuals who had a valid extension to file their 2019 return by October 15, 2020. To be clear, because tax payments that were due with 2019 returns were due on July 15, 2020, those payments will not be eligible. This relief does, however, apply to the quarterly estimated income tax payment that will be due on September 15, 2020.
