There have been cases where hackers call folks and identify themselves as “computer support from their accounting firm”. The callers attempt to get the person to allow them remote access into their computer. The caller will then try to sell the person a computer security plan that might cost as much as $300.00. At the same time while they have remote access, they could be stealing your personal information. Unless you know for sure who you are talking to, do NOT allow them access to you computer.

A few good notes to remember:
• If you get a call like this, ask the person for their company name, their name, and phone number, and then request to call them back.
• The IRS will NOT be calling you asking for access to your computer.
• Don’t give personal information, including full name, birth date, social security number etc… to someone you don’t know.
